"Mindfulness is the energy of being aware and awake to the present moment. It is the continuous practice of touching life deeply in every moment of daily life. To be mindful is to be truly alive, present and at one with those around you and with what you are doing." ---Thich Nhat Hanh, "The Art of Mindful Living"

Mountain Lamp

The hub of Mindfulness Practice in Whatcom County and surrounding areas is The Mountain Lamp Community, a rural retreat center located in the foothills of Mt. Baker, forty miles east of Bellingham, Washington. Eileen Kiera and Jack Duffy are the guiding teachers for Mountain Lamp and several sanghas around the area and in Canada. For information about the teachers, the practice schedule, and retreats, visit the Mountain Lamp website.

Mountain Lamp hosts a Day of Mindfulness open to mindfulness practitioners (or those interested in learning mindfulness practice) on the first Saturday of every month. Days of Mindfulness begin at 10:00 am and continue until 4:00 p.m. These days include sitting and walking meditation, a vegetarian potluck meal in mindfulness, work meditation, Dharma talks and/or Dharma discussion. Mountain Lamp also holds retreats that last for 3 to 30 days in length.
